As yesterday was Memorial Day I found myself thinking about our troops and the hardships they face day in and out to keep us free. I wanted to write a post simply saying a huge “thank you!” to all of the men and women of the armed forces for all that you do to serve this great country of ours.
I found myself realizing that we often take our freedom for granted in this country. But free we are… we are free to pursue happiness. For those of us in the entertainment industry I believe we often forget just how deep that freedom goes. We are free to tell the stories and create the media which inspires and delights us – the things that truly make our creative hearts sing. I have friends who make very dark independent features that deal with the struggles and horrors of humanity, I have friends who create inspirational films for families and individuals, I myself have been involved in the creation of everything from dark dramas, to light comedies, to promotional films, music videos, spiritual pieces, children’s videos, television shows, and everything in between. There’s a lot of freedom to create, to inspire, to delight, to challenge.
So I wanted to take a moment to say that I am grateful that we live in a country where we are not censored from sharing our beliefs, our personal take on the world, life, and humanity through this medium known as entertainment. However, let’s remember that this freedom has come at a price that many men and women pay for everyday by serving in our armed forces. May we remember those who have lost their lives and those who live with the scars of war-and let us hold in our hearts a sense of gratitude for their continued sacrifice and dedication.
